HISTORY OF HAWAI'I'S FOOD PRODUCTION |
The history of Hawai'is food production was very unique compared to other food sources in other areas. We were a very self sustaining community in which we were able to rely on ourselves to produce the food we were consuming. This was a very important concept because the people of Hawai'i were able to control the process of what they were consuming from the beginning and knew every detail and step that went into cultivating their 'aina.

Hawai'i's food production has changed drastically since ancient times and our self- sustainability has decreased immensely because our heavy reliance on shipped produce. We heavily depend on the resources that are shipped from the mainland rather than locally grown and sourced food. In order to be more responsible for our states food production, locally planting seeds and raising animals will allow us to be in charge of our food source rather than being dependent on the continents shipped products.

The carbon cycle is extremely important to our food systems. Trees are able to produce oxygen due to the carbon that is being interconverted in the environment. These affect systems because it is all intertwined within one another. A system is defined as a part or parts that are connected through larger patterns. The carbon cycle is able to affect many systems within the environment. |
